The challange
Simon is a global leader in electrical switches, sockets, lighting, and connectivity solutions — a company where design excellence and manufacturing precision go hand in hand, and where engineering decisions made in Barcelona directly affect production floors across four continents.
With over 200 engineers working across multiple geographies, the lack of synchronization between engineering and manufacturing was causing errors to surface too late in the process — at the manufacturing phase, where fixing them is far more costly. An initial attempt to address this with PTC Navigate View licenses proved inefficient and difficult to scale across the organization.
The solution
ISFsoft Viewer was implemented in combination with PTC Navigate View, providing a dedicated visualization server that gives manufacturing teams direct access to up-to-date engineering data — without requiring PLM access or expertise.
A Windchill workflow was configured to automatically publish information to the Viewer server, distributing data from Barcelona to manufacturing plants in Brazil, Mexico, India, and Poland. The rollout was gradual and flexible: each site defined its own product strategy and adopted the solution at its own pace, without disrupting ongoing operations.
The results
- Earlier error discovery — manufacturing teams can now identify issues before they reach the production floor, reducing the cost of rework and defects.
- Immediate productivity gains for the engineering team, freed from the overhead of managing data access requests.
- An overall sense of a synchronized development team across geographies and time zones.
- Viewer became the catalyst for a broader transformation: Simon moved from folder-based project management to a structured, Windchill-based Product Lifecycle Management approach — socializing engineering data across the organization for the first time.
- 150 active users on the platform across global sites.
